State officials visited a factory in Queens that hires people with disabilities.
The Lieutenant Governor [of New York] , Kathy Hochul, and the Assemblyman David Weprin, toured the Alphapointe facilities.
The non-profit organization employs people with visual disabilities to manufacture cleaning equipment, military uniforms and turnstiles.
The visit was held on the occasion of the Disability [Employment] Awareness Month and the New York Workforce Development Awareness Week.
65% of the employees of the Richmond Hill factory have visual impairment.
They work with equipment adapted to their condition.
Hochul also submitted an official statement from the state to honor Alphapointe’s work with visually impaired people.
