Low Vision Services

Low Vision Services

Alphapointe’s low vision rehabilitation services are designed to assist our patients in adjusting to life with vision loss with the goal of maintaining or regaining independence in all aspects of life.

Training and Guidance

When corrective lenses and surgery are no longer effective, our low vision services helps patients deal with the emotional aspects of vision loss and live more productive lives with the vision they have.

Typically, patients have previously seen a doctor for vision correction, but due to increased vision loss, it is no longer effective. Medicare, Medicaid and most third party insurance companies pay for most of the cost of low vision services.

We evaluate a patient’s functional vision and assess and prescribe optical devices to maximize the patient’s vision so they can perform daily living activities and work tasks. Optical devices may include: bioptics, telescopes, prism readers, varying magnification options and much more.

Maintain Independence

Alphapointe’s occupational therapists help patients understand the recommended devices effectively, along with adaptive strategies, techniques and equipment to support our patients’ dignity and help them to do the things they want to do! We assess and identify other services for the patient.

We also provide home visits to ensure that our patients receive comprehensive and effective strategies, feel completely comfortable with the optical devices recommended and to ensure safety and increased independence in the home.

Dr. Sahni holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed her optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. She has over 23 years of experience working with visually impaired patients and is dedicated to helping people with vision loss maintain or gain their independence.

“My mission is to provide exceptional care to people losing their vision and help them maintain as much function as possible so they can live their lives to the fullest,” Dr. Sahni said.

Alphapointe operates two clinics: the Alphapointe Low Vision Clinic in Kansas City, Mo., and KC Vision Performance in Overland Park, Kan. Based on your needs, where you live, your schedule and other factors, when you contact us, we’ll work with you to determine the best location where you can receive our services.

“I’ve always been drawn to this type of work,” explains Dr. Sahni. “It’s a way to help people maximize the vision they do have and help them find ways to continue doing the things they love to do.”

“Never have I been to a medical establishment so professional, well-organized and with such a knowledgeable staff. I appreciate your help.”

“Alphapointe does truly treat everybody as an individual.”

“I was sad and depressed before and I didn’t understand [my low vision], now it’s acceptable and I’m “normal” and I feel like I could do whatever I want to achieve.”
