The Alphapointe Current Riders – boat #2217 – Will Be Competing in Their 4th MR340
Join us as we cheer on the first and only blind/sighted team to compete in the world’s longest non-stop river race – the MR340. Two Alphapointe employees – Jake McLaughlin and Isaac McBurney – will be headed down the river from Kansas City to St. Louis for the third consecutive year.

Meet the Team
Isaac (foreground) and Jake both work at Alphapointe, a nonprofit founded in Kansas City more than 100 years ago with the purpose of employing and serving people who are blind and visually impaired. It’s a mission that continues today — Alphapointe is one of the largest employers of people with vision loss in the region. And provides critical services to nearly 4,000 people who are blind and visually impaired each year.
Isaac is currently studying at UMKC to be a TVI (teacher for the visually impaired). He manages Alphapointe’s Connecting store, an adaptive technology retail outlet and works with youth programs and volunteers. Jake is Senior Manager of Special Events and Programs. He has been at Alphapointe for 11 years.
In 2026 they’ll be competing in their fourth MR340.
