DESCRIPTION:Technology Camp is a weeklong\, hands-on day camp designed to introduce youth to technology skills that support education\, independence\, and future career pathways. This year’s curriculum will focus on website development\, combining computer literacy\, collaborative learning\, and real-world technology applications. \n\n\n\nCampers will participate in a full college campus tour at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) and engage in integrated collaboration opportunities with UMKC and Enterprise KC. Instruction will be led by experienced professionals\, including Dr. Chuck Gardner of Enterprise KC\, who will serve as one of the lead instructors\, as well as Dr. Mathew Edwards\, an associate professor at UMKC\, a member of the BVI community\, and founder of the UMKC Disability Alliance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYouth who attend and successfully complete the program will be issued a laptop equipped with accessible software\, including JAWS or ZoomText and the Microsoft operating system. DESCRIPTION:The Alphapointe Current Riders will Be Competing in Their 4th MR340 \n\n\n\nJoin us as we cheer on the first and only blind/sighted team to compete in the world’s longest non-stop river race – the MR340. Two Alphapointe employees – Jake McLaughlin and Isaac McBurney – will be headed down the river from Kansas City to St. Louis for the fourth time.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Team \n\n\n\nBelow\, Isaac (foreground) and Jake both work at Alphapointe\, a nonprofit founded in Kansas City more than 100 years ago with the purpose of employing and serving people who are blind and visually impaired. It’s a mission that continues today — Alphapointe is one of the largest employers of people with vision loss in the region. And provides critical services to more than 4\,000 people who are blind and visually impaired each year. \n\n\n\nIsaac is currently studying at UMKC to be a TVI (teacher for the visually impaired). He manages Alphapointe’s Connecting store\, an adaptive technology retail outlet and works with youth programs and volunteers. Jake is the Director of Special Events and Programs. Rieger & Co.\, for the incredible venue\, the hard work\, and the incredible food and drinks. \n\n\n\nThis year’s version of Boots & Pearls grossed $320\,000 with a record setting $72\,000 of in-event fundraising. And all of that will help support comprehensive rehabilitation for people who are blind or visually impaired.  \n\n\n\nThe only thing left to say other than THANK YOU is we’ll see you next February (date TBD). Every year\, we provide these critical services to thousands of people of all ages. All proceeds go to rehabilitation and clinical services for working age adults and seniors in our community who are blind and visually impaired.  \n\n\n\nWe thank you for your support – it means the world to us and to the people we serve.
